How it works
Calculates hours worked in a shift from clock-in time, clock-out time, and break length. It shows gross time, net time after the break, and the result in decimal hours, which is handy for payroll and timesheets.
Formula
net = (clock-out − clock-in) − break
Example
Clock-in 08:30, clock-out 17:15, and a 45-minute break: 8 h 45 min gross, 8 h 0 min net (8.00 in decimal).
Frequently asked questions
Does it work for shifts crossing midnight?
This version assumes clock-in and clock-out are on the same day. For a night shift, calculate each part separately and add the results.
What are decimal hours for?
To multiply by an hourly rate. 8 h 30 min is 8.5 hours, not 8.30.
