Formula
tip = bill × percentage ÷ 100 · total = bill + tip
Example
A €50 bill with a 10% tip: €5 tip, €55 total, or €27.50 each if there are two of you.
Frequently asked questions
What tip is customary?
It depends on the country: in Spain it is optional and small, in the United States it is usually around 15–20%.
Should I calculate it on the post-tax total?
That is most common. Some countries tip on the pre-tax amount; enter whichever figure you prefer.
